This week, we are taking a break from the usual matchup here at World Sports Weekly. Instead, we go to the apparent new Lance Armstrong scandal in the sports world. Lee Chong Wei, the badminton world number one, has won many championships, including the All England Open three times.
These victories started to be questioned, however, as Chong Wei failed a doping test on October 2nd. While there is the possibility of this coming from doping, the top shuttler (yes, that’s what they call them) also had a recent thigh injury for which he is suspected of using Chinese traditional medicine, some of which contains traces of ingredients in performance-enhancing drugs made in China.
There will be a secondary test on Wednesday, November 11, by the World Badminton Federation (WBF) who have also “provisionally suspended” the Malaysian player since the original October test. The secondary test will be in Oslo, Norway and will be covered by reporters from many world news organizations before the WBF’s statement the next day.
