Living in New Mexico has it’s advantages. The views are priceless, the green chile is hot! This week demonstrates New Mexico at it’s greatest: The Balloon Fiesta! Thousands of international balloonists gather here to share their love of flying every October in a grand, colorful festival of Hot air balloons. Picture it: It’s 6:00 in the morning. You are still sleepy, sipping a cup of hot cocoa. But when you look up, you see hundreds of vibrant, awe-inspiring balloons low in the air, taking off towards the sky. It’s a sight to see, that’s for sure.
When could you ever go to such a thing? Not on a school day/night, that’s for sure! Us New Mexicans want our balloon time, too!
This is where the state comes in. This week was only a three day week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Why? This four day weekend isn’t for columbus or Martin Luther King Jr. It’s for pure New Mexican Pride! APS is encouraging that all their kids go to the balloon fiesta over this glorious 4-day weekend. And we will – that’s what it’s for, right?
